Microsoft bought Skype for $8.5 billion


Microsoft officially become the owner of the Internet telephone company Skype Technologies. Skype purchase value is 8.5 billion U.S. dollars. According to the Wall Street Journal Web site, the purchase rate is one of the largest acquisitions by Microsoft in the last 36 years.

Microsoft and Skype are reluctant to respond to news of the acquisition. Both do not want to comment on this transaction.

Skype was founded in 2003. The company was subsequently bought eBay Inc. in 2005 for 3.1 billion U.S. dollars. In 2009 eBay sold its shares to Silver Lake, Canada Pension Fund Investment Board, and Andreesen Howoritz worth 1.9 million U.S. dollars in cash and amounted to 125 million U.S. dollars in debt. However, eBay still has a third of the Skype shares.

Skype already has 124 million users in 2010. A total of 8.1 million was paid users. Previously rumored, Skype is also a struggle between Facebook and Google.
