Microsoft System Center Solutions

Microsoft System Center solutions play a central role in Microsoft's long term vision for helping IT organizations benefit from self-managing, user-centric, dynamic systems. System Center solutions capture and aggregate knowledge about the infrastructure, policies, processes, and best practices so that IT pros can optimize IT structures to reduce costs, improve application availability, and enhance service delivery.

These integrated and automated management solutions enable IT organizations to be more productive service providers to their businesses. Aiming to enable self-managing, dynamic systems, System Center solutions close the gap between development, operations, and IT—connecting people, processes, and tools—by evaluating dependencies and optimizing business process performance from deep inside the operating system, applications, and composite services and workflows in both physical and virtual environments.

With Microsoft System Center solutions, IT pros have the power to more effectively and easily manage all the components that define IT, allowing them to focus more on delivering new business value for the organization.

System Center solutions provide integrated management of all aspects of IT infrastructures in physical and virtual environments, using knowledge-driven management guidance to help organizations realize the value of their investment faster than ever.

With the strongest partner ecosystem, the most compelling licensing model, and the best economics, System Center solutions provide a low total cost of ownership (TCO) and a high return on investment (ROI). The functionality and economics of System Center solutions combine to provide the fastest time to value while building a more agile IT infrastructure.

Microsoft Windows 7 Features

Windows 7, the latest operating system from Microsoft, includes a number of new features, such as advances in touch and handwriting recognition, support for virtual hard disks, improved performance on multi-core processors, improved boot performance, DirectAccess, and kernel improvements.

Windows 7 adds support for systems using multiple heterogeneous graphics cards from different vendors (Heterogeneous Multi-adapter), a new version of Windows Media Center, a Gadget for Windows Media Center, improved media features, the XPS Essentials Pack and Windows PowerShell being included, and a redesigned Calculator with multiline capabilities including Programmer and Statistics modes along with unit conversion for length, weight, temperature, and several others.

Many new items have been added to the Control Panel, including ClearType Text Tuner, Display Color Calibration Wizard, Gadgets, Recovery, Troubleshooting, Workspaces Center, Location and Other Sensors, Credential Manager, Biometric Devices, System Icons, and Display.

Windows Security Center has been renamed to Windows Action Center (Windows Health Center and Windows Solution Center in earlier builds), which encompasses both security and maintenance of the computer. Readyboost on 32-bit editions now supports up to 256 Gigabytes of extra allocation.

The default setting for User Account Control in Windows 7 has been criticized for allowing untrusted software to be launched with elevated privileges without a prompt by exploiting a trusted application. Microsoft's Windows kernel engineer Mark Russinovich acknowledged the problem, but noted that malware can also compromise a system when users agree to a prompt.

Windows 7 also supports images in the RAW image format through the addition of Windows Imaging Component-enabled image decoders, which enables raw image thumbnails, previewing and metadata display in Windows Explorer, plus full-size viewing and slideshows in Windows Photo Viewer and Window Media Center.

The taskbar has seen the biggest visual changes, where the Quick Launch toolbar has been replaced with the ability to pin applications to the taskbar. Buttons for pinned applications are integrated with the task buttons. These buttons also enable the Jump Lists feature to allow easy access to common tasks. The revamped taskbar also allows the reordering of taskbar buttons.

To the far right of the system clock is a small rectangular button that serves as the Show desktop icon. This button is part of the new feature in Windows 7 called Aero Peek. Hovering over this button makes all visible windows transparent for a quick look at the desktop. In touch-enabled displays such as touch screens, tablet PCs, etc., this button is slightly wider to accommodate being pressed with a finger. Clicking this button minimizes all windows, and clicking it a second time restores them.

Additionally, there is a feature named Aero Snap, that automatically maximizes a window when it is dragged to the top of the screen. Dragging windows to the left/right edges of the screen allows users to snap documents or files on either side of the screen for comparison between windows, such that the windows vertically take up half the screen. When a user moves windows that were maximized using Aero Snap, the system restores their previous state automatically. This functionality is also accomplished with keyboard shortcuts. Unlike in Windows Vista, window borders and the taskbar do not turn opaque when a window is maximized with Windows Aero applied. Instead, they remain translucent.

How to disable User Account Control (UAC)

User Account Control (UAC) is a feature in Windows that can help you stay in control of your computer by informing you when a program makes a change that requires administrator-level permission. UAC works by adjusting the permission level of your user account. If you’re doing tasks that can be done as a standard user, such as reading e‑mail, listening to music, or creating documents, you have the permissions of a standard user—even if you’re logged on as an administrator.

To disable the UAC, open the User Account Control settings window by clicking your picture profile or type 'user account' on the search box. Select to change User Account Control settings to open the settings window.

Select 'Never Notify' to disable the UAC. But this is not recommended, because your computer will be more vulnerable from virus or trojan. Choose this only if you need to use programs that are not certified for Windows 7 because they do not support User Account Control.

Restart your computer to take effect after the changes to the UAC.

Windows 7 User Account Control (UAC)

User Account Control (UAC) is a feature in Windows 7 that can help you stay in control of your computer by informing you when a program makes a change that requires administrator-level permission. UAC works by adjusting the permission level of your user account. If you’re doing tasks that can be done as a standard user, such as reading e‑mail, listening to music, or creating documents, you have the permissions of a standard user—even if you’re logged on as an administrator.

When changes are going to be made to your computer that require administrator-level permission, UAC notifies you. If you are an administrator, you can click Yes to continue. If you are not an administrator, someone with an administrator account on the computer will have to enter their password for you to continue. If you give permission, you are temporarily given the rights of an administrator to complete the task and then your permissions are returned back to that of a standard user. This makes it so that even if you're using an administrator account, changes cannot be made to your computer without you knowing about it, which can help prevent malicious software (malware) and spyware from being installed on or making changes to your computer.

We recommend that you log on to your computer with a standard user account most of the time. You can browse the Internet, send e‑mail, and use a word processor, all without an administrator account. When you want to perform an administrative task, such as installing a new program or changing a setting that will affect other users, you don't have to switch to an administrator account; Windows will prompt you for permission or an administrator password before performing the task. We also recommend that you create standard user accounts for all the people who use your computer.

In this version of Windows, you can adjust how often UAC notifies you when changes are made to your computer. If you want to be informed when any change is made to your computer, choose to always be notified.

Fix Hyperion 8.5 Aero Theme Warning on Windows 7

Hyperion Suite 8.5 needs Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2 to run the application. When we run the Hyperion applications such as Analyzer, Planning, or Reports on Windows 7 there is an Aero Theme warning that will automatically set the display to the Basic Windows Theme. This issue is happens because of the DirectDraw bugs of JRE 1.4.2.

To solve the issue, we should disable the DirectDraw on the Java parameter:
1) Go to the Control Panel.
2) Open the Java 32 settings screen.
3) Set the JRE Parameter on Advanced tab to:
-Xms128m -Xmx128m -Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true

Click OK to save the changes and restart your browser.
This will solve the issue.
