Oak Trail is the successor to Intel's Atom has been widely used in netbooks. This processor is manufactured with 45 nanometer process technology, but its power consumption can already be pressed up to 60 percent than the previous generation. Intel is also already preparing Cedar Trail with 32-nanometer technology, which will be launched following the year 2010, and 22 nanometers in 2013.
"Intel's new Atom platform and follow Oak Trail Cedar Trail is an example of our ongoing commitment to bring personal experience to mobile devices and netbook and tablet, comes with architectural changes that provide the battery more durable and better performance," said Doug Davis, vice president and General Manager of Intel's Netbook and tablet.
Oak Trail with the platform processor Z670 will be available first to the market beginning in May 2011 and was ready to welcome at least 35 models of devices from various vendors. OEMs will use it in tablet device with the Windows operating system, Android, and MeeGo.
Tablet market is currently dominated by ARM-based platforms. The presence of Oak Trial would be a direct competitor. The entry of Intel into the market a tablet - and perhaps also smartphones in the future - open for no reason. Gartner research shows tablet sales will increase rapidly from an estimated 70 million units this year to 294 million units in 2015. In fact Stat predicts sales of smartphones reached 850 million units in 2015. PC market is still growing, but not as fast as tablets and smartphones.
So far, Intel is already making a choice platform for Atom as tablets, but can not because it has not been as efficient as popular ARM ARM platform to deliver power-efficient processors for mobile devices. Some processor manufacturers using ARM platforms such as Samsung, Texas Instruments, Qualcomm, and Apple.
